Wharton Hardware & Supply

About Wharton Hardware & Supply

Wharton Hardware and Supply was founded in 1948 by Victor Magistrelli, an Italian immigrant who had already worked as a blacksmith, demolition contractor, and barge operator. He named the business after Wharton Street in South Philadelphia, where he lived at the time. The company's first warehouse was a converted 19th-century one-room schoolhouse on Route 130 in Pennsauken, New Jersey — a building that still stands as part of Wharton's headquarters today.

Wharton started renting contractors' equipment in the 1950s. By the 1960s, the company was being managed by Aldo Magistrelli, Victor's son. In the 1970s, Wharton became deeply involved in the concrete accessories business — a focus that has remained at the core of the company ever since. In 1983, a second store opened in Springfield, Virginia, followed by a concrete accessories and form rental yard in Clinton, Maryland. In 2019, Wharton expanded to the West Coast with a branch in Mound House, Nevada (Carson City area), serving the Reno, Tahoe, and Sacramento markets.

To this day, Wharton remains a family operation. Aldo Magistrelli still manages the company alongside his three sons — Victor, AJ, and Chuck — and his son-in-law, Carl. With over 70 trucks running daily deliveries across the Mid-Atlantic and a growing Western U.S. presence, Wharton has scaled significantly since 1948, but the culture hasn't changed. New team members work directly alongside leadership, learn the business from the ground up, and become part of a close-knit team that has been serving contractors for over 75 years.
